Laminate flooring is similar to laminate countertop material, where the pattern is simply a picture on a thin film which is then laminated between a wear layer and a high-density fiber core. It is installed as a floating floor over a foam cushion. Some types are glued together, while others have a mechanical locking system where you just snap the pieces together.
